A Kickflip customizer is built from questions and answers. Each question is something a customer decides — a colour, a size, a name to print. Each answer is one of the options they can pick.
Every question has two settings that determine how it behaves:
Input type — how the customer makes the choice. A dropdown, a text field, a file upload, or None if the question isn't one they choose at all.
Display type — what the choice changes on the product preview. An image, a colour, text, a logo, or None if it has no visual effect.
Those two settings are independent, which is what makes the system flexible. An image layer that customers never pick directly uses input type None with display type Image. A size dropdown uses input type Dropdown with display type None — customers choose it, but the product looks the same either way.
When a customer finishes, their combination of answers becomes a design. If they buy it, that design becomes an order.
Glossary
Answer — One option within a question. "Navy" is an answer to the question "Body color."
Base price — What your product costs before any extra prices are added.
Choice panel — The area beside the product preview where customers make their selections.
Customizer — The interface your customers use to configure a product. Also called a product configurator.
Default answer — The option selected when the customizer first loads.
Design — A saved combination of answers. Created whenever a customer adds a configured product to their cart or shares their design, whether or not they go on to buy.
Display type — What a question changes visually on the product: image, colour, text, logo, or None.
Extra price — An amount added to the base price when a customer picks a particular answer.
Input type — How a customer makes a choice: dropdown, text input, file upload, or None.
Layer — One image file representing a single part of your product. Stacked together, layers make up the product preview.
Logic — Rules that show, hide or restrict options based on earlier choices.
Order — A completed purchase, with the design and all the customization details attached.
Print area — A defined region of the product that customization is sent to when generating print-ready files.
Print-ready file — A production file generated automatically from a design.
Product — A configurable item in your Kickflip dashboard, containing all its questions, answers and pricing.
Question — One thing a customer decides. Questions can be visual, like a colour, or not, like a size.
Quote — A price request from a customer, used instead of a direct purchase.
Starting point — A pre-made design customers can begin from rather than starting blank.
Theme — The look of your customizer: fonts, colours, spacing, layout. Kickflip includes Barebones, which shows all questions on one page, and Booklike, which steps customers through them as they scroll.
