Getting started with inventory management

In order to track inventory, Kickflip uses a variant system. When you want to track stocks for a product or component, the first step is to create variants from the product's questions.

What is a variant

A variant is either a single answer from a question or a combination of answers from multiple questions.

Example of a single answer variant for a T-Shirt:
Question: Select size
Variant: Large

Example of a multiple answer variant for a T-Shirt:
Questions: Select size, Shirt color
Variant: Large / Red

Creating variants

In Kickflip, you don't create variants one by one, you simply select a question or multiple questions and all the variants will get automatically generated. To create variants:

  1. Within the My Products page, open your product.

  2. Publish your product.

  3. Click on the Variants tab in the top bar of the builder.

  4. Hit the Create variants button.

  5. Select a question or multiple questions and hit Create.

  6. You should see all the variants show up in a list.

Tracking multiple items in a single product

In Kickflip, you have the possibility to track more than one item's stock per product. This is useful if you keep inventory of different parts of your product.

Example use case:
You are selling custom gaming controllers and you want to keep track of the inventory for the case, the joysticks and the buttons.

In order to track more than one item, simply add all the variant combinations you want to track.

Sharing stocks between variants

It's possible for multiple variants to share a common stock.

Example use case:
Your are selling multiple water bottles and all the bottle caps across products are the same.

In order to share stocks you should simply assign the same SKU to all the variants that should share a common stock.

Managing the stocks

Once you have created your variants, they will show up in the Inventory page of the Kickflip admin. In the inventory page, you can edit the stocks one by one or use the bulk actions by using the checkboxes and then bulk editing the stocks.

The stocks will show up as 3 different quantities:

Committed: Quantity of items reserved by orders that are not yet fulfilled

Available: Quantity available for sale
Total: Total quantity of stock you have (Committed + Available)

When a variant's available quantity reaches 0, it will show up as out of stock on your customizers and Kickflip will prevent customers from purchasing that variant.

How out of stock is handled

All out ouf stock variants will appear as so in the customizer. Your customers will also be prevented from purchasing them. They can still preview them in the customizer but the choices will be tagged as out of stock. If a customer clicks on add to cart and has selected an out of stock choice he will see a message telling them that their current selection is not available.

NOTES

Shopify
Stock validation is currently applied on the cart page only. Cart drawer might be handled in the future. However, if you have enabled Kickflip's inventory sync with Shopify, out-of-stock handling is fully managed by Shopify, meaning inventory is validated at all cart-related stages, including cart page, cart drawer, and checkout.

Woocommerce
At the moment, stock checks in the cart are not available on Woocommerce. If a customer adds an item to their cart and it sells out before the order is completed, there is no validation in place to prevent the transaction from proceeding.

Wix

For Wix, Kickflip’s inventory is validated in the cart page, the side cart, and the checkout page.
